THE INTERFAITH COUNCIL ON COVID 19 HAS FAILED THE CHURCH - BISHOP HUDSON NDEDA

After carefully reading and considering the communication and guidelines issued by the interfaith committee, l realize there are some areas of concern that needs  to be addressed.

Looking at a limit of 100 worshipers leaves so much to think about, it is of importance to note that the members we have in our Churches are the very ones who for six days are meeting in Matatus, markets, supermarkets, at the estates and other places, can someone explain why he or she believes that the risk is higher when they come to church than when they are elsewhere?

Why is it that everywhere else the capacity is determined by social distance apart from the Church? what informs the one hour time limit for our services yet elsewhere they are there for the whole day?

think of people travelling in a tiny shuttle for eight hours but in Church it must be one hurried hour, it makes one to wonder if the covid19 virus is anti-Church or it is some people using it to fight the Church in Kenya?

Can someone come out clear and tell Kenyans that the Church is no longer needed in this country instead of hiding behind covid19? This may not be new because the Church in this country has gone through a rough time in the hands of this government for the last seven years, If we are not careful the wrath of God will fall heavy on this country, let's respect God and His Church, anybody dealing with or talking about the Church must exercise a lot of care and humility, most of us have a strong feeling that it may be an extension of what we have been fighting all along.

The age rule is another issue, the 58 years old also for six days mingle in Matatus, bars, supermarkets, markets, restaurants and elsewhere but when it comes to Church a problem, it is clear the Church is under attack from unseen forces in this country but God will have the final say, He never loses any battle.

While His excellency the President mean well for this country, the advisors are miss advising the government and particularly on matters place of worship or they have no idea what they are advising about, they cannot advice on what they don’t know, they must consult widely.

Kenya has several Church and Clergy Umbrella bodies and they are not well represented in the interfaith council, the government gave the council the liberty to expand the team which they have refused to use to accommodate the rest so that we can have a balanced team that everyone can believe in, the team needs to understand that the government has given them the mandate on Church reopening and the tasks is now squarely in their power and they cannot blame the government any more.

Most of us honestly have no trust in the team as constituted, we realize some of them have no interest in reopening the place of worship as seen by the letters signed by them to their Churches, how do we expect them to be fair?

l think the honorable thing they can do is to resign from those positions and allow those who have a burden of reopening places of worship to take their place and develop practical rules, otherwise for them to remain on the committee brings in the question of conflict of interest and they may not represent us well.

This is the time this country needs God more than ever before and what is happening is not good, if we treat the Church abnormally, God will treat this country abnormally, l hope things will change for good,  am  praying that God will come through for this country. l also pray for those affected for speedy recovery and those who may have lost their loved ones to this virus,be comforted and may God strengthen  you.
